Royal Ontario Museum Exhibit: What Canadians Must Know

“The Royal Ontario Museum recently had an exhibition of Mayan artifacts, the most comprehensive ever assembled. The Guatemalan government, a major donor to the exhibition, for more than thirty years has waged a genocidal war, with the assistance of successive American administrations, against the majority Mayan Indian population.

Among the works shown at the ROM exhibit were cylindrical ceramic vases, dating from the “classic” Mayan period (250 – 900 A.D.), painted with images of daily life, religious beliefs and sometimes including pictographic glyphs. My “reproductions” of the vases speak of the lives of the living Maya.”
